Celebrate September 21st – the annual International Day of Peace – when millions of people, worldwide, celebrate Peace Day events with concerts, workshops, vigils, and school projects. Over 200 million people will participate in hundreds of countries. This date is also World Gratitude Day and coincides with the Fall Equinox. With all that is taking place on the world stage today – ISIS, the Syrian refugee crisis, the deadly unrest between Ukraine and Russia – peace efforts have never been more needed. This year's United Nation's International Day of Peace is focused on "Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All."

Avon Mattison is Co-Founder and President of Pathways to Peace, an international peace-building educational and consulting organization. Avon is a forerunner in the field of peace-building, and has been involved with The International Day of Peace since it’s inauguration. Pathways to Peace serves as international coordinator of the Culture of Peace Initiative, which has been granted UN Peace Messenger status.
Charles Gibbs is the Executive Director of the United Religions Initiative, a global interfaith network for world peace that is active in 60 countries. Charles has traveled worldwide as a featured speaker and collaborator with religious, spiritual, and community leaders. He co-authored Birth of a Global Community about the birth of the United Religions Initiative.
Louise Diamond is a professional peacebuilder, author, and educator dedicated to activating a culture of peace in our society. She was the Founding Director of Global Systems Initiatives – having also founded The Peace Company – and is president emeritus of the Institute for Multi-Track Diplomacy. She has worked for peace in places of violent conflict all around the world. The Peace Book: 108 Simple Ways to Make a More Peaceful World, is her best-selling guide to making peace. Her video memoir, Shazam! Stories from a Life of Spirt-in-Action, is available online free of charge.
Barbara Gaughen-Muller co-founded, with her husband Robert Muller, Good Morning World – described as "Today’s Idea Dream For A Better World.” As an educator, author, business leader and public speaker, she has devoted her career to socially responsible global public relations. She currently runs SEE International, providing sustainable medical, surgical, and educational services through volunteer ophthalmic surgeons to restore sight and prevent blindness in disadvantaged individuals worldwide.
Dot Maver is President of the National Peace Academy USA, where she and her team promote the principles and processes of peace. They work with the spirit of cooperation for peace building and peace learning. Dot also served as Executive Director of The Peace Alliance, building a grass-roots lobbying effort in fifty states for the US Department of Peace Campaign to promote civic engagement for a culture of peace.
Sharon Mehdi is a writer, teacher, healer, mother and grandmother. She is the author of The Great Silent Grandmother Gathering, an inspiring story of two women whose simple act of caring creates the power to transform the world. Sharon has lived and worked in Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Guatemala, Mexico, Spain, France and Canada.
Patricia Smith Melton is Founder of Peace X Peace, originated by Melton‘s response to the 9/11 attacks. It is an international, Washington DC-based organization that connects women for peace through its interactive, Internet-based Global Network – to purposefully answer the question, "What is peace and how can women be empowered to build it?" It currently has Circles in 120 countries.
Joanie (Misrack) Ciardelli is a consultant and volunteer specializing in the area of peace-building. She is the Co-Founder and former Director of Pathways To Peace (PTP), an educational and consulting organization of the United Nations. She represents PTP on the Board of the Citizens for a UN People’s Assembly and is on theDemocracy and Justice Committee of the Threshold Foundation.
Robert Muller was born in 1923 and died in 2010. He knew the horrors of World War II through Nazi occupation and imprisonment. After the war, he devoted the next 40 years of his life behind the scenes at the United Nations, focusing his energies on world peace. He served as UN Assistant-Secretary-General and as Chancellor of the University for Peace – created by the United Nations in demilitarized Costa Rica.
Gary Malkin is an award-winning composer/producer and performer dedicated to making a difference in the world by participating in projects that inspire the heart and catalyze social change. He has enjoyed a highly successful career for over 20 years, having received seven Emmys and six ASCAP awards acknowledging his work in film and television, commercials and CD production. Gary is the CEO and Co-Founder of Wisdom of the World, Inc.
Merrill Collins has composed and performed music for the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations, UNCHR Human Rights Day, Amnesty International, United Way, Pathways to Peace, UN World Habitat Day, and Earth Day. Several albums are collaborations with master drummer Pope Flyne of Ghana.
